Turkey overturns MON810 feed ban
Turkey’s High Court has overturned its own ruling rescinding the approval for use in feed of Monsanto's genetically modified insect-resistant MON810 maize, according to the USDA's Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS). The move reverses a December 2013 decision. That rescinded the approvals for feed use of MON810 and insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant MON88017xMON810 maize, and prohibited the import of feed products that contain those traits. The FAS notes that the latest decision does not mention any moves on the MON88017xMON810 trait. The Ministry of Agriculture followed up the Court rulings with bans on import of the products that contain the traits, and repealed their approvals. Late last month, the Ministry of Agriculture directed the provincial directorates, which implement the Biosafety Law at the ports, to implement the Court’s decision.
