EU clarifies update for REACH safety data sheets
The European Commission has amended chemicals legislation covering agrochemical intermediates and co-formulants to resolve potential confusion over the requirements for safety data sheets. Such sheets are provided by suppliers to downstream users, and the requirements are laid down in Annex II of the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) Regulation (1907/2006). The Commission has issued a new Annex II, as Regulation 2015/830. It was needed because two conflicting amendments to the previous Annex II were due to come into force on June 1st, one made during updates to EU legislation on classification, labelling and packaging, and the other made under a separate update to REACH. The new Annex II replaces both of these versions. However, safety data sheets supplied to any recipient before June 1st may continue to be used and need not comply with the new Annex until May 31st 2017, the Commission says.
