Canada to OK Confine Extra for greenhouse use

The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has proposed extended approval for Winfield Solutions' fungicide, Confine Extra (mono- and dipotassium salts of phosphorous acid), to suppress oomycete diseases on a range of crops and ornamentals in greenhouses. The product was approved for the suppression of downy mildews and Phytophthora spp diseases on various field crops and outdoor ornamentals in 2013. Confine Extra is a non-conventional fungicide with systemic properties and a low risk of resistance development, the PMRA notes. Potassium phosphite has been identified as a high priority by Canadian growers for use against downy mildew on greenhouse cucumbers, the Agency adds. The proposed approval is open to public comment until August 1st.
