EU decides to continue with organic ag proposals

The European Commission has confirmed that it will continue to work on its planned revision of rules on EU organic production, as “political discussions have advanced significantly”. Ongoing arguments over the potential negative impacts of the original proposals had previously resulted in the Commission threatening to withdraw them if no deal was reached. However, EU Agriculture Ministers reached an agreement in June that resolved some contentious issues, including removing the threat of farmers losing their organic certification if their crops were accidentally contaminated with pesticides.
