US EPA to cancel propoxur uses
The US EPA proposes to cancel certain uses of the non-agricultural carbamate insecticide, propoxur, after a preliminary human health risk assessment found unacceptable risks when sprayed indoors. Under an agreement with the registrant, Wellmark International has voluntarily requested the cancellation of all indoor aerosol, spray and liquid formulations, use in food handling establishments, and indoor crack and crevice treatments. After these cancellations, there would be no remaining food uses or tolerances for propoxur, the EPA points out. Use of propoxur inside homes, day care centres and schools was cancelled in 2007 and pet collar use ended last year. The latest action is part of the Agency's registration review programme. Propoxur entered the programme in 2010.
