Canada clears fluazinam in special review
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) proposes the continued registration of ISK Biosciences' fungicide, fluazinam, following a special review of the active ingredient. The review was triggered by the 2010 ban of the fungicide by Norway due to environmental concerns. The Norwegian assessment indicated that fluazinam was persistent with potential for carryover, had potential for atmospheric presence and bioaccumulation, and posed risks to earthworms. There were also concerns over developmental risks to humans. The PMRA's review found that fluazinam does not pose unacceptable risks to human health and the environment, taking into account current conditions of use.
