Delays in GM bean launch cost Brazil over R$600 mln

The delay in the introduction of Brazil’s first developed genetically modified feijao beans has cost some R$686 million ($226 million at the current rate), according to a study from the Celeres consultancy.  The agricultural research corporation, the Embrapa’s, GM golden mosaic virus-resistant feijao beans were approved by the biosafety authority in 2011. The developer intends to launch the product in 2016, the Celeres notes.
