China mulls pesticide restrictions

China’s Ministry of Agriculture is preparing to restrict the usage of six “high-toxicity” pesticide active ingredients. The proposal will see the immediate suspension of registrations for the use of the insecticide, methidathion on mandarin oranges, while registrations for the insecticides, phorate, isofenphos-methyl and carbofuran on sugarcanes will also be revoked. Methyl bromide and chloropicrin will be reclassified for use only as soil fumigants.
