EU Agric Ministers slam GM food/feed proposals
EU Agriculture Ministers have joined the widespread criticism of European Commission proposals to allow member states to ban the use of EU-approved genetically modified food and feed. At their first discussion on the proposals in July, Ministers were united in their views that the proposals would be impractical to implement, and would conflict with EU and international trade rules on the free movement of goods. Such objections have been raised by groups across the political and industrial spectrum. Calls to reject the proposals have already been made by many MEPs in the European Parliament’s Environment Committee.
