Bayer upgrades US veg seed R&D site
Bayer CropScience is upgrading its 160,000 sq ft (14,860 m2) research and development facility in West Sacramento, California, the Sacramento Business Journal reports. The company’s vegetable seeds division moved from Davis into offices in West Sacramento earlier this month. The division has 40 employees. That follows last year’s move for Bayer’s biologics world headquarters from Davis to West Sacramento with about 160 employees and the capacity for almost double that. The company is about to convert some warehouse space into offices for the researchers who work in the company’s West Sacramento laboratories. In a couple of weeks, Bayer will open a “high-tech” greenhouse in the same business park as the laboratory. The greenhouse is split in two, one side each for vegetable seeds and biologics researchers. Bayer so far occupies some 130,000 sq ft of the available160,000 sq ft.
