Mexican growers' agchem residue lab OK'd
Growers in a Mexican region have been granted Ministry of Agriculture, the Sagarpa, approval for their own pesticide residue testing laboratory. The Sagarpa rates the Teknolab laboratory as “world class”, fulfilling international standards. The laboratory is to be employed in identifying, confirming and quantifying pesticide residues in avocados bound for export to countries such as Japan and the US. Growers are from the Tancitaro municipality, Michoacan state and number some 5,000. The region produced around 21% of Mexico’s exported avocados last year, the Sagarpa notes.
