Brazil court suspends Intacta royalty charges
A Brazilian court has suspended royalty payments for cargoes of soybeans containing Monsanto’s genetically modified insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant Intacta RR2 Pro (MON87701xMON89788) technology. The 16th Civil Court of Porto Alegre District prohibited the collection of 7.5% royalty payments on cargoes of the soybeans. It followed a class action involving the Rio Grande state soybean growers association, the Aprosoja RS, Parana state rural workers union, the Fetap, and seven other rural workers’ unions. A fine of R$2,000 (US$620) would be imposed for each violation of the ruling.
