Australia approves GM sugar cane tests
The Australian Office of the Gene Technology Regulator (OGTR) has approved small-scale field tests by the University of Queensland on genetically modified sugar cane. The plants have been modified with two undisclosed genes involved in sugar metabolism. The OGTR previously concluded that the tests posed negligible risks to human health and the environment. The University plans to conduct the tests on two sites between August 2015 and May 2020.
