Canada to OK Semios CM
The Canadian Pest Management Regulatory Agency proposes to fully approve the pheromone dispenser, Semios CM (codlelure), for use on pome and stone fruit to disrupt the mating of codling moths (Cydia pomonella). The novel technology employs a liquid formulation that is released by automatic dispensers as an aerosol spray. Other registered products for mating disruption of codling moths are solid dispensers, the PMRA notes. Far fewer Semios CM dispensers are required per unit area than for solid dispensers, resulting in time and labour saving. The pheromone is also only released when the moths are active and at a consistent rate, while solid dispensers provide a continual release and the rate tends to decline through the season. The proposed approval is open to public comment for 45 days.
