EFSA rejects MON88302 risk assessment complaint
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has rejected the anti-genetically modified crop group, Testbiotech’s, claim that the Authority’s risk assessment of Monsanto’s GM glyphosate herbicide-tolerant MON88302 oilseed rape was inadequate and flawed. The EFSA’s GMO panel gave safety clearance to the GM line last year and it was approved by the European Commission for import, processing and use in food and feed earlier this year. But Testbiotech, supported by eight other NGOs, complained to the Commission. The EFSA analysed each of the scientific arguments put forward in the complaint and concluded that none of them revealed new information that would invalidate the previous risk assessment conclusions and risk management recommendations.
