EU/US seek agchem co-operation in TTIP talks
The EU and the US have agreed to continue expert-level talks on regulatory co-operation in pesticide areas such as harmonisation of maximum residue limits, extrapolation of field study results, and “global zoning”. This was one outcome of the tenth negotiating round for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) in July. The European Commission stresses that it has no plans for a specific chapter on pesticides in the TTIP, but says that co-operation on certain standards will help trade in food products. It has always maintained that there would be no weakening of the EU’s strict safety requirements for agrochemicals.
