Argentina grants SGS GMO trial site accreditation
Argentine authorities have granted approval to Swiss inspection, verification, testing and certification company SGS to carry out field trials of genetically modified crops. The national seed institute, the Inase, has accredited its Junin-based facility to “perform field studies with any kind of GM material following successful completion of a thorough review of its field trial capabilities, biosafety and agronomy skills”. Customers can apply for field trials at the site through the Argentine agricultural biotechnology assessor commission, the Conabia, with applications for new seasons recommended from January to May, the company notes. SGS is targeting further site openings in South America. It has several in Brazil.
