German container collection up 14% in 2014
The collection of empty pesticide containers in Germany went up by 13.9% in 2014 to 3,035 tonnes, reports the German agrochemical industry association, the IVA. That represented a recycling rate of 85% (80% in 2013). This was the first time since the beginning of the association’s container collection scheme, the PAMIRA, that the collection crossed 3,000 tonnes in a year. The IVA points out that the achievement is “even more surprising” as it is a voluntary scheme and there is no legal obligation to return the packaging.
