Growers and industry seek emamectin use extensions for Brazil
Growers and agrochemical suppliers are lobbying Brazilian authorities for details of which states are to be granted emamectin benzoate insecticide use extensions. The insecticide holds one-year emergency use approvals in some states for the control of earworms (Helicoverpa spp) following national emergency import authorisation. Industry is seeking a definitive list of states to hold such approvals for 2015-16 from the Ministry of Agriculture, newswire Agrolink reports. The insecticide has proven the most effective means of controlling the pest. The issue reportedly dominated discussions at the Ministry’s agricultural inputs chamber, the CTIA’s, meeting this month. Bahia, Piauí and Mato Grosso are among those states calling for authorisation renewals. Planting in the 2015/16 season starts in a little over a month’s time.
