Uncertainty hovers over EU GM maize sowings

Sowings of Monsanto’s genetically modified insect-resistant MON810 maize in the EU are likely to have fallen by 10.4% in 2015 to 128,103 ha, the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service (FAS) reports. That would account for 1.3% of the total maize acreage of 9.7 million ha during the year compared with 1.5% of it during 2014. MON810 is the only GM crop approved for commercial cultivation in the EU.
