China allocates extra pest relief funds

China has earmarked an extra Yuan 500 million ($78 million at the current rate) in disaster-relief funds for the prevention of plant diseases and insect pests on its food crops this year, reports China’s official state newswire, Xinhua. The sum will be in addition to the Yuan 150 million ($23 million) that was already allocated last year. The funds come from China’s Ministry of Finance, and are made available to plant protection stations nationwide “to ensure good harvests”.
