Plant Biotechnology Patent Watch (Q2 2015)
During the second quarter of 2015, a total of 37 patent applications from 18 different assignees were published covering genetically modified plants and methods of producing them. The plant biotechnology patents were mainly sourced from the US Patent and Trademark Office. The top seven crop protection and biotechnology companies filed 27 applications, accounting for 73% of the published patents. Monsanto led the field with 16 applications, followed by BASF with 5 filings, Bayer CropScience (3), Pioneer (1), DuPont (1) and Dow AgroSciences (1). A number of publications from universities emphasised on molecular tool build-up and genome-wide research.
