Bayer builds US glufosinate capacity
Bayer CropScience is further expanding its US production capacity for the herbicide, Liberty (glufosinate-ammonium), and its precursors. The company recently began constructing a $200 million facility in conjunction with the German specialty chemical firm, Evonik Industries, in the Mobile, Alabama area to manufacture glufosinate precursors. A $50 million expansion of Bayer's Muskegon, Michigan facility is also under way to enhance glufosinate production. Both projects are expected to take two years to complete, with production expected to start in mid-2017.
