Herbicide share of Brazil soy grower costs sharply up

Herbicide purchases as a share of soybean production costs have jumped from 7% to 12% in Brazil’s major soybean growing state, Mato Grosso, according to the Mato Grosso Institute of Agricultural Economics (IMEA). The increase is due to rising need for weed control, with population growth and the emergence of resistance to glyphosate herbicide in the past five years.
