Dow files NAFTA challenge to 2,4-D ban
Dow AgroSciences has formally requested a NAFTA arbitration hearing over the ban of the phenoxy herbicide, 2,4-D, by the Canadian province of Quebec. The company filed a notice of intent to submit a claim last year ( Agrow No 555, p 1). Dow alleges that the Canadian government has breached the NAFTA by allowing the ban. It is seeking a Can$2 million (US$1.6 million at the current rate) settlement and legal costs.
