EU sets phase-out schedule for triflumuron
The European Commission has instructed EU member states to withdraw approvals for the insecticide, triflumuron, by September 16th 2009. Member states can permit existing stocks to be sold and used until September 16th 2010. The phase-out was initiated after the EU regulatory authorities decided not to re-register the active ingredient ( Agrow No 560, p 9). Triflumuron was in the third round of the EU review of existing ais. The evaluation found that lack of data prevented an adequate assessment of consumer exposure, residue levels, and risks associated with a metabolite, the Commission says. A high risk to aquatic organisms was also identified, it adds.
