California revives risk-reduction grants:
The US California EPA's Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) has awarded grants totalling $585,000 to three projects aimed at reducing pesticide risks. The programmes are targeted at pesticide use on almonds and grapevines and at ant control in urban areas. The latter seeks to cut the use of pyrethroid insecticides by 50% by 2010. They are the first Pest Management Alliance grants to be awarded by the DPR since state budget cuts halted the scheme in 2002.
