Environment MEPs question end to set-aside:
Members of the European Parliament's Environment Committee have expressed concern over the loss of environmental conservation if the EU set-aside regime is abolished. A Committee draft opinion urges the European Commission to come up with measures to ensure the continued benefits of fallow land for natural habitats and biodiversity in agricultural areas. The Committee will submit its opinion to the Parliament's Agriculture Committee, which is leading the parliamentary debate on the Commission's plans to review set-aside and the EU Common Agricultural Policy. The Agriculture Committee is in favour of an end to set-aside (see this issue, p xx).
