US minor-use funding concerns
The US minor-use pesticide programme, IR-4, is facing more financial worries following its change in status in the federal budget for fiscal 2007. Congress agreed that IR-4 should be funded at the same level as in fiscal 2006. However, the change in status means that IR-4's funding could be reduced by up to $2 million as research institutions can now make indirect cost charges, the organisation points out. It is also concerned about cash flow because of the time needed to obtain this year's funding under the new competitive grant arrangement.
