Makhteshim-Agan Industries acquires Bayer's Guthion:
Makhteshim-Agan Industries (MAI) has acquired global rights to Bayer CropScience's organophosphate insecticide, Guthion (azinphos-methyl). The sale is a global divestment of the active ingredient, including its trademarks, patents and registration data, Bayer says. MAI had already purchased European rights to the active ingredient from Bayer. That was part of a multi-product deal in 2002, following Bayer's acquisition of Aventis' crop protection business (Agrow No 410, p 1). The previous agreement complied with EU and US anti-trust conditions on the Bayer acquisition. The product is primarily for use on apples and pears against codling moths (Cydia pomonella). It is also for use on berries, parsley and nuts.
