EU re-registers fipronil
The EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health has voted to re-register the insecticide, fipronil. The active ingredient is in the second round of the EU review of existing ais. The decision now goes forward for formal adoption by the European Commission, which will set a date for the ai's inclusion in Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414). BASF welcomes the decision. Fipronil-based seed treatments are currently registered in over 20 countries around the world, it says. BASF acquired global rights to agricultural applications of fipronil from Bayer CropScience in 2003 (Agrow No 412, p 1).
