EU re-registers ethoprophos:
Bayer CropScience has welcomed the EU's decision to re-register the organothiophosphate nematicide/insecticide, ethoprophos. The active ingredient, which is in the second round of the EU review, was cleared by the EU Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health in March. The European Commission will formally adopt the decision and set a date for the ai's addition to Annex I of the EU agrochemical registration Directive (91/414). Bayer sells ethoprophos as Mocap for use in potatoes against potato cyst nematodes, free-living nematodes and wireworms. The product provides an alternative to Temik (aldicarb), which Bayer withdrew for use on potatoes earlier this year (Agrow No 510, p 10), the company points out.
