EU delays phase-out of two biocides:
The European Commission has delayed the phase-out of certain uses of two biocides after member states demonstrated that there were no available alternatives. Poland is permitted to allow professional use of the pyrethroid insecticide, cyfluthrin, to protect timber until September 1st 2007. The use of the organophosphate insecticide, temephos, for mosquito control in French overseas departments is permitted until May 14th 2009. Biocidal approvals for both ais were withdrawn in September 2006 because they were not supported through the review of existing ais under the EU biocidal products Directive (98/8).
