EPA mulls PIP (plant-incorporated protectants) production rules

The US EPA is considering changing the regulations governing establishments that produce plant-incorporated protectants (PIPs - formerly known as plant pesticides). Facilities producing PIPs are registered as pesticide-producing establishments under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA). However, the production reporting requirements of the FIFRA are "especially challenging" for PIPs because the "borders between production and use are unclear", the EPA points out.
