Syngenta herbicide for glyphosate-tolerant maize:
Syngenta aims to launch a new combination herbicide, Halex GT (mesotrione + S-metolachlor + glyphosate), for use on glyphosate-tolerant maize in the US in 2008. Halex GT will undergo trials across the Corn Belt this year, with next year's launch being subject to EPA approval. A single post-emergence application of Halex GT controls a range of grasses and broadleaf weeds, including ragweeds (Ambrosia spp), lambsquarters (Chenopodium album) and pigweeds (Amaranthus spp), Syngenta says. The herbicide provides residual control of weeds that are resistant to glyphosate, triazines or acetolactate synthase inhibitors, it adds.
