EPA lays out conditions of azinphos phase-out:
The US EPA has formally notified the receipt of cancellation requests from the registrants of the organophosphate insecticide, azinphos-methyl. Last year, the Agency decided to extend the phase-out of the insecticide to 2012, with some uses to be cancelled in 2007 and others in 2009 (Agrow No 508, p 14). The cancellation requests by Arysta LifeScience, Bayer CropScience, Gowan and Makhteshim-Agan Industries are conditional on the EPA holding a public meeting prior to July 1st 2011 on the continued need for azinphos-methyl. The Agency must determine prior to November 1st 2011 whether to conduct a risk/benefit analysis for the remaining uses. The registrants also called for a review of the EPA's decision to use an inter-species uncertainty factor in its assessment of risks to agricultural workers.
