US to re-register non-crop phenoxies:
The US EPA has determined that the phenoxy herbicides, dichlorprop-P and mecoprop-P, are eligible for re-registration provided that certain risk mitigation measures are carried out. Application rates for broadcast treatments must be limited to 0.75 lb acid equivalent/acre (0.8 kg ae/ha), while spot treatments must not exceed 1.2 lbs ae/acre for mecoprop-P and 2 lbs ae/acre for dichlorprop-P. Annual US usage of mecoprop-P amounts to some 5 million lbs, of which more than 97% is applied to residential lawns. Some 4 million lbs of dichlorop-P is used each year, with 60% applied to lawns. There are no food-use registrations for the herbicides.
