Canada mulls Monsanto's GM pest-resistant soybeans
The Canadian authorities have notified the receipt of an application from Monsanto for the approval of genetically modified insect-resistant MON87701 soybeans. The soybeans contain the Bt Cry1Ac toxin for the control of lepidopteran pests. The application seeks unconfined environmental release for food and feed use, including imports. The crop is not intended for cultivation in Canada. Monsanto is developing insect-resistant soybeans specifically for Latin American markets ( Agrow passim).
