Guatemala to collect two-thirds of containers
Guatemala’s empty pesticide recycling and disposal programme aims to collect 65% of the sector’s empty containers in 2009, CropLife Latin America says. The goal adds up to 269 tonnes of empty containers, following the collection of 235 tonnes last year. The programme has been joined by 23 companies in the agriculture market chain this year. The national agrochemical industry association, the Agrequima, leads the programme. The industry’s efforts at training farmers, distributors, and students have reached 650,000 people in the country, it says. CropLife notes that the 18 Latin American countries involved in the container recycling organisation, Campo Limpio, aim to raise collection to 30,000 tonnes this year from 24,000 tonnes in 2008.
