BASF to launch eco-friendly packaging
BASF is to launch “eco-friendly packaging” for pesticides in Europe for the 2010 spring season. It is in the form of a lightweight, easy-to-handle plastic canister with a central opening at the top, a new screw cap without a foil seal, and a design that reduces spillage and glugging. It reduces farmers’ risk of coming into contact with the product while improving the speed of opening, pouring and rinsing of the bottle. The new bottles and labels consist of mono-material, which the company says is easier to recycle than a material mix. They also require 25% less plastic. BASF expects the line to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases by 2,000 tonnes annually, once it has been fully launched in Europe by 2014.
