China: Tons of pesticide-contaminated oranges destroyed
A spokesperson from the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office told reporters on Jan. 21 that China destroyed 40 tons of oranges shipped from Taiwan because they were contaminated with the organophosphate insecticide methamidophos. The tainted oranges were part of a larger 1,230 ton shipment that arrived in China on Jan. 19. None of the oranges made it to consumers, and the cost of the destroyed oranges was not provided, www.chinaview.cn reported.
