Not surprisingly, articles related to news developments in the mega mergers and acquisitions going on within the crop protection industry during 2017 made up the bulk of Agrow’s top ten most-read articles in 2017.

Two of the three big mergers or acquisitions have been completed: ChemChina finalised the acquisition of Syngenta in June; and DowDuPont was formed from the merger of DuPont and Dow AgroSciences’ parent company, Dow Chemical, on schedule on August 31st. Bayer’s proposed acquisition of Monsanto is expected to close by the second quarter of 2018.

  1. Syngenta/Adama to sell EEA assets to Nufarm: The top news story happened in October when Syngenta and Adama entered into a binding agreement with Nufarm to sell a portfolio of their crop protection products for $490 million.

  3. Sumitomo Chemical/BASF agree deal on new fungicide: Sumitomo Chemical and BASF agreed to collaborate the development of a new unnamed fungicide.

  5. UPL rumoured to be mulling Platform acquisition: In July, UPL was rumoured to be exploring a bid of over $4 billion for Platform Specialty Products.
