Rift Valley Fever is an ‘ongoing threat’

The ongoing threat of the Rift Valley Fever Virus (RVFV) can be demonstrated by the fact there have been some 448 cases of the disease in South Africa the past 12 months. According to Dr Jeroen Kortekaas of the Wageningen University Research Center in the Netherlands, there are currently outbreaks RVFV in East and West Africa, Madagascar and the Middle East. Some 18 people have also died in South Africa as a result of the disease in the last year.
