Skystar develops 20 probiotic drugs

Chinese company Skystar Bio-Pharmaceuticals has developed more than 20 new products based on the drug-resistant microorganism Lactobacillus acidophilus for the treatment of livestock and aquatic animals, it says. L acidophilus is a probiotic bacteria that prevents disease-causing organisms from entering the host, and are often used to treat several conditions in humans, the most common being bacterial vaginosis. Skystar says it will launch the new products by the end of this year's third quarter pending approval from China's ministry of agriculture. The company expects these products to contribute around $550,000 to its annual revenue. Skystar developed the products with research organization Jiangsu Microorganism Institute.
