Frozen food expansion

INDIAN ice-cream manufacturer, Vadilal Industries, is entering the frozen food category with vegetable and ready-to-eat snack products. The products have been test-marketed in Mumbai, reported the The Economic Times , and the company is aiming for INR750 million (USD14.91) of its INR3.5 billion crore turnover by 2014. Frozen peas, sweet corn, mixed vegetables, cauliflower and French beans are included in the vegetable range, while frozen custard apple pulp and various mango varieties are also available. The ready-to-eat snacks include samosas, parathas, naan, kulcha and rotis. Food companies appear to be moving into the Indian frozen sector with enthusiasm, and news of Vadilal’s new ranges follows hot on the heels of McCain’s recent snacks launch in the sector (FOODNEWS 23 September).
