StatsCan sees less flax production

STATISTICS Canada has said that there were 365,000 tonnes of flax grown in Canada in 2011, which was lower than trade estimates of 445,000 to 531,000 tonnes and the 2010 volume of 423,000 tonnes. Grant Fehr of Keystone Grain said low stocks weren’t a surprise given lower acres this year across the Canadian prairies. He added that an exceptional crop being grown in the Black Sea origins would probably prevent price rises.
