China to build up pork stocks

China is to start buying pork to store in a move to contain the fall in prices on the domestic market, said the National Development and Reform Committee, in a statement on Tuesday, February 18.
The ample supply of hogs has been in large part responsible for falling domestic prices, said the committee. Fresh pork prices have fallen by 8% since mid-December, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
